Transportation to Medical Services
A recurring transportation issue that surfaces time and time again during the coordinated transportation planning process is the availability of affordable transportation to medical services both inside and ouside Tompkins County. The Coordinated Plan Committee agreed to take up this issue in 2010 with the understanding that many more parties - medical service providers, transportation operators, public agencies, customers and the public need to be invited to participate in an open public planning process. We are especially concerned with how this issue impacts target populations of persons with low income, seniors and people with disabilities. To this list we add people without sufficient means or eligibility for third-party programs (Medicaid or insurance) to pay for necessary transportation services.

2011 Program
Hi all,
Happy New Year! This is a reminder that the next medical transportation meeting will be Friday, 1/21, from 10-11:30 at FLIC, 215 Fifth Street in Ithaca. If you have any agenda items, please let me know.
We've accomplished a number of things in the few times we've met and I think it is important to reflect upon what we've done. I think we have done well in identifying available transportation options. I applaud the work of the CCE team in their outreach and web development efforts and consider the members of this committee as a resource for them as they move their projects forward. We've created new alliances with the Northern Tioga Neighbor's Network and are beginning to look at linkages beyond the county line. And, the survey for medical office managers is almost completed.
Now I would like this committee to think about our next steps and where we should go from here.
See you next week,
Teri

--------------------------------
During the past three weeks a survey of medical office administrators was designed to assess how medical offices could coordinate with transportation services. The survey will be administered in January.
The next medical transportation meeting will be Jan. 21 from 10-11:30.
I touched base with a volunteer driver group from Spencer-Van Etten (S-VE), which is part of the Nichols and Richford/Berkshire collaboration. The SVE group takes people to the Arnot in Elmira, Guthrie in Sayre, Cayuga Med. and to appts. in Binghamton, primarily. I spoke with Virpi Loomis and she said she would be willing to come to our Jan. meeting. She also said she would be willing to look into the possibility of meeting other volunteer groups part way to transport people longer distances.
Also, I just got a call this morning from a woman who needs to go to the VA in Syracuse on Jan. 14. Any suggestions? I told her about airport limo & suggested she contact COFA. She said Greyhound/Trailways is too confusing & she was unsure of the connections. She gets a VA reimbursement of $25 & she said she would pay for gas.
