October 29, 2010 Meeting Summary
Hi everyone,
Thanks for attending the first medical transportation meeting. The next meeting will be on Friday, December 3, from 10:00-11:30 at the Finger Lakes Independence Center, 215 Fifth Street in Ithaca.
We covered a lot of topics & there are some good things heading our way:
Rideshare database
ITN Everywhere R&D project
possible New Freedom funding related to people with disabilities & other niche grants
regional (7 county) transportation network grant
Some of the challenges include:
out of county transportation
rural in-county transportation
cost
vehicle insurance & liability
knowing what is out there & keeping up to date information
potential changes in Medicaid transportation reimbursements
case management
medically frail patients/outpatient procedures/dialysis patients
As we plan for the next meeting, possible areas of focus include:
Connect the transportation dots and clearly identify the gaps - create the schematic for getting from here to there
Develop a decision tree database that is accessible online and based upon individual inputs will come up with transportation options
Create a survey for medical office managers
Collecting stories is also very important, especially when applying for grants. If you keep records related to medical transportation barriers & solutions and can share them with the group, this information will be very useful.
That's basically what I remember - feel free to add on.
Have a great weekend,
Teri
