"Avego’s first UK Shared Transport pilot program has been confirmed for Nottingham City later this year. Researchers at the university of Nottingham’s Horizon Research Institute will run the pilot, with participation from staff at E.ON - one of the United Kingdom's leading power and gas companies.
Based at E.ON’s campus in the Sherwood Business Park, the pilot will be phased in initially with 30 drivers who already carpool to work. They will use Avego’s iPhone app to advertise their empty seats to potential riders in real time. Three months later, the pilot will be expanded to non-carpoolers.
As Avego automatically reports on passenger miles traveled, a Shared Transport pilot offers any city or large employer a reliable and cost-effective tool for effecting and measuring reductions in Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT). Nottingham City Council will be supporting this pilot and carefully monitoring its results." Avego website, UK
Another RIdeshare 2.0 feature can be for making payment to drivers from riders or from a public program. Payment can be on a per mile basis and simed at recovering the cost of travel and not for the driver's time.
RIdeshare 2.0 is ridesharing augmented by new communication technology, Internet, and software. We should include a robust ridesharing program in our rideshare development plans.
